Principle:
Inside a specifically designed fixture lays 2 chambers.
One that matches as closely as possible the shape of your part (called test chamber) and another of exactly the same volume of the first chamber when a part is inside it (called reference chamber).
The instrument starts by filling up at a given pressure two internal volumes: one for the reference circuit and one for the test circuit.
Then it isolates itself from the pressure line as well as isolates each circuit from one another.
In the final stage of the test, the instrument “empties” each internal circuit into both chambers.
If the part’s volume is lower than the one of the reference, the pressure drops and the transducer converts it into a volume that is either accepted or rejected.
If the part’s volume exceeds that of the reference one, then the pressure will raise and be converted into an acceptable or rejectable volume.
The base unit is the Pa. The resolution in terms of volume is inferior to 1% of the test volume.
The accuracy depends on several calibration parameters.
Volume range from a few cm3 to 10 dm3 with accuracies reaching a few mm3 on small volumes of several cm3.
